Connecticut Audubon & its members make their voices heard on key conservation issues

Advocating for Birds

Connecticut Audubon devotes a significant part of its conservation work to advocacy. It’s a crucial complement to our education programs and our on-the-ground habitat improvement projects.

The work could not be more timely. Bird populations have been falling steadily for more than half-a-century. Connecticut Audubon strives to do its part on a statewide basis to help stabilize and restore those dwindling numbers.

An important focus is Hartford, where we advocate for laws and policies that will provide better protection for the state’s birds and their habitats. We undertake this work in collaboration with a number of partners, and we rely on a strong network of Connecticut Audubon members who provide grassroots outreach to their elected representatives.

We publish Connecticut State of the Birds each year to delve into the health, population trends, and conservation needs of the state's birds, examine solutions, and offer recommendations and plans for action.
